April 1, 2025
Dear Jefferson Academy Families,
Are you passionate about Jefferson Academy’s future? Do you want to make a lasting impact on our students and school community? Now is your chance!
Between Monday, May 5, 2025, and Tuesday, May 13, 2025, the JA community will vote to fill two Board of Directors seats that expire in June 2025. This is also a great opportunity for new voices and fresh perspectives to step forward.
Why Should You Get Involved?
JA is a family-governed school, which means parents and guardians shape its direction through policy and leadership. As a Board member, you will:
Help set policies that guide JA’s future
Ensure the school’s mission and vision remain strong
Support administrators while advocating for students and families
Collaborate with other engaged parents to create a thriving school community
Board members serve a three-year term (through June 2028) and work to keep JA a strong, student-focused school.
Who Can Run?
If you are a parent or guardian from any JA campus—including Summit Academy—you are eligible! No prior experience is required, but we are especially looking for individuals with backgrounds in legal, leadership, facilities, fundraising, and project management. However, if you have a passion for education and a desire to serve, we encourage you to apply regardless of experience.
What Are the Requirements?
Board candidates must agree to:
Read E.D. Hirsch’s books Cultural Literacy and The Schools We Need and Why We Don’t Have Them , and agree with the principles.
Become familiar with the Core Knowledge Scope and Sequence.
Support JA’s educational philosophy, discipline policy, and administrative structure.
Sign the Board Manual upon election (available in school offices for review).
Serve on one or more board committees.
How to Apply
To run, submit your candidate letter and resume by Tuesday, April 22, 2025 in person at your school office or via email to Jerrilynn Lilyblade at jlilyblade@jajags.com.
Your candidate letter should include:
Your background and how it can contribute to the Board.
Why you want to serve and what you hope to accomplish.
A little about yourself and your connection to JA.
All candidate information will be shared with families via email and posted on www.jajags.com/page/board-voting. Our Community Engagement Specialist, Tiffany Blakley, will also reach out for a recent photo/headshot to be featured on the website and social media during the election.
Make a Difference – Join the Board!
Our students, staff, and families rely on strong, committed leadership. If you’re ready to step up and make an impact, we encourage you to apply!
Questions? Contact any current JA Board member—we’d love to chat with you about this opportunity.
Thank you for your continued support of Jefferson Academy Charter Schools. We look forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,
The Jefferson Academy Board of Directors
