All the Surveys!

This year we implemented several processes to capture important information for our community, such as volunteer interest and availability, JA/Summit businesses, skills within our community, and more. The purpose of these various surveys is to ensure that our community is aware of the various opportunities within JA, as well as to assist our community by connecting them to their interests. The Family Volunteer, Skills, and Needs survey gathers a large amount of this information and has already been useful for classroom teachers, our support organizations, and our families in need, to name a few.

Expansion of Community Cares programs

For several years, the Community Cares program has helped families during COVID and around the holidays with the Holiday Care Packages. While we recognize that the holidays can be a tough time for families, we also know that the cost of living in Colorado has increased, making the day-to-day expenses more challenging. This year we expanded the Community Cares Program to offer assistance to families in need at any point in the year. Families that are in need of assistance with bills/necessities, such as groceries, a bill, or gas, can complete the Google form of their need and they are added anonymously to a database that anyone can access to sign up to assist them.

Farewell to the Doc

After 5 years at JA Elementary, Dr. Deb O’Neill decided it was time to retire (again) as Principal. Dr. O’Neill was pulled out of retirement when Executive Director, Tim Matlick, approached her and asked her to serve as Principal of JA elementary back in 2008. Without hesitation, Dr. O’Neill said “YES!” In her 5 years at JA, she has been the rock of the school, guiding the staff and students during COVID-19 and beyond. Her contributions to the school and JA community have made a lasting impact. We sat down with her to chat about her time at JA and her future plans in her retirement 2.0.
